Anne Vallayer-Coster
The White Bowl, 1771

Anne Vallayer-Coster (1744-1818) was a French still-life painter, daughter to a  goldsmith. In 1770, at the age of twenty-six, she was elected to the French Academy. She was supported by Marie Antoinette who gave her an appartment at the Louvre. In spite of her royal connection Vallayer-Coster survived the Revolution, perhaps due to her harmless subjects.
