PAULA MODERSOHN-BECKER

1876-1907

Paula Modersohn Becker was a German painter born in Dresden in 1876. She studied art in London and Berlin and in 1898 she settled in an artists' colony at Worpswede where she met Otto Modersohn whom she married three years later. She died at the age of thirty-one. Just three weeks after the birth of her second daughter. 

She is best known for her lyrical self-portraits, and studies of children and old peasant women, but she also produced landscapes and still lifes.
